Smile Bank
The Smile bank has plenty of reasons to be cheerful- they've just won the "best Internet Bank" award 2003; for a host of reasons. As a customer you get award-winning banking and credit cards, plus if you're morally-minded the ethical credibility of being backed by the Co-operative bank. That same morality will make you happy that Smile is one of The Times' 50 Best Companies to Work For, which won't save you money but might make you feel happier (and get you better service)
The press just can't stop saying good things about Smile bank, and they keep coming back to customer service, which seems to be way ahead of anyone else; although few people have problems to ring up about- the site is delightfully designed, and if you're worried about security- (and believe me you should be- fraud is rife in the UK) Smile is the only bank to be awarded a British Standards kitemark for information security management.
The ethical policy will be clear to anyone who knows the Co-operative Bank, but it's good to see the policy written if full on-site, along with several current campaigns, and practical ways in which Smile is advancing and not just adhering to an ethical agenda. You'll find this is the only online bank to also have a suggestions box!
